What are the Possible Side Effects or Complications from Endovenous Laser Treatment?
Endovenous laser ablation treatment is a remarkably safe, effective, and virtually painless procedure for the treatment of varicose vein and spider veins. As with any procedure, there can be side effects or complications, so it is imperative to have the procedure performed by a highly qualified specialist vein doctor.
Because endovenous laser ablation is minimally invasive, complications are rare compared to the surgical procedures used in the past to treat varicose veins. In fact, endovenous laser treatment will actually improve venous health, but if left untreated, varicose veins are progressive and will only become worse.
The most serious complication associated with endovenous laser ablation is deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot in a deep vein). Another possible complication can occur when injections cause skin infection requiring antibiotic treatment. However, both complications are extremely rare and the risks can be further decreased by carefully following the doctor’s instructions after the procedure.
Possible side effects could include temporary mild numbness, bruising, or inflammation, but overall endovenous laser treatment is a safe, highly effective and virtually pain-free treatment for the vast majority of patients.
