Facial Veins West Palm Beach

Facial veins are thin, red or purple-colored lines that typically snake across the cheeks on your face and give them a ‘rosy’ look. In many cases, your face will look red and flushed and it is difficult to cover these areas properly with foundation or tinted make-up. They are also called ‘broken veins’ or ‘thread veins’.

Treatment for Facial Veins

Facial veins are usually a small vein that is enlarged and ‘wiggly’ in appearance. There are a couple of treatment options available that work well with very little pain.

  • Laser therapy: this is brief bursts of laser light that ‘erase’ the small blood vessels. The bigger purple veins are treated with a different laser called YAG Laser as they are deeper down than the red veins.
  • Sclerotherapy: if the veins are bigger than 4mm, then your treatment option has to be sclerotherapy. This works by inserting a needle into the skin and injecting a liquid into the vein that causes the vein to shrivel up and disappear over a period of 2 months.

Facial Veins Risks

There are very few risks associated with having your red spidery veins removed. Sometimes after sclerotherapy, you may develop a skin ulcer which will heal with time, or the skin might look slightly brownish in color which will fade away after several months. A small percentage of people get a ‘matting’ – a cluster of red blood cells around the treated area – these will disappear with further treatment.

There are lots of clinics around the country which offer laser therapy, but you never know how long they have been in business or whether they are medically qualified or not – do some research before going to the first clinic your find.

FAQ’s

What are facial veins?

Facial veins are broken blood vessels on your face. This means that the veins near the surface of your facial skin have become enlarged. There is no danger at all if you have these veins on your face apart from the fact that they might not look very appealing.

What are the Symptoms of facial veins?

There is no one cause of facial veins. But research has shown that there are some common factors in those people who have facial veins. They are:

  • If more than one family member suffers from facial veins
  • From spending too much time in the sun – this increases your risk factor – it does not cause them
  • Your age – as we get older, our skin becomes less elastic and more susceptible to spider veins
  • More woman than men develop facial veins. This is thought to be because of our hormonal changes during pregnancy and the menopause.

Are facial spider veins Preventable?

Yes, generally they are. Microdermabrasion and oxygen facials are two kinds of treatment from a facial salon which can help to prevent new veins from forming. Skin specialists also advise you to keep out of the sun to protect your skin from those harmful ultra-violet rays. Long-term exposure to the sun can cause irreversible damage to your facial skin.
