5 Questions to Ask When You’re Looking for a Vein Doctor

When varicose or spider veins are a problem and it’s time to seek advice, you want to consult with a vein doctor who is both caring and competent. However, it’s not always easy to know how to choose the right physician who can provide the specialized care to accurately diagnose and treat vein disease at the source rather than treating vein disease as an aesthetic issue. Asking these five questions can help guide you:

  • Is the vein doctor a Board Certified Phlebologist? – Phlebology (Vein Specialty) Board Certification demonstrates expertise and commitment to treating clinical conditions associated with venous conditions, such as spider veins, varicose veins, venous stasis ulcers and deep vein thrombosis.
  • What is the vein specialist’s educational background and how many years experience does he/she have? After receiving an undergraduate degree, completing four years of medical school, and then three years of residency, did the vein doctor continue his education to become a specialist in treating venous disorders? You want someone who is highly experienced and well educated in treating your specific medical issues.
  • What other certifications and professional memberships does the doctor maintain? A vein doctor who is an active member of his/her professional associations and maintains pertinent certifications (such as a Diplomat of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine or with the ARDMS as a Vascular Technologist (RVT) and Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) is a doctor who is dedicated, specialized, and who stays abreast of the latest treatments.
  • What treatment options does the vein specialist doctor offer? Look for a physician who offers a variety of non-surgical, highly-effective methods for treating your condition; including endovenous laser ablation and sclerotherapy for varicose veins.
  • How is the doctor’s staff? Are they highly-trained in the medical field and have excellent customer service skills? Are they honest, reliable, and concerned about your health and well-being? A doctor’s medical and support staff should reflect his professionalism and dedication to treating your venous disease.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Smooth, Spider Free Veins

Valentine’s Day is all about love but maybe it’s time for treating yourself with treatment that will leave you with spider free veins. This Valentine’s Day, consider it the perfect time to fall in love with yourself and to show that you really value you!

So many of us are constantly taking care of others, and we don’t invest in ourselves or make us the priority. We think that if we take care of ourselves it’s simply unnecessary indulgence, but in reality the best thing you can do for both yourself and those you love is to practice self-love first.

Spider veins, which are the dilated blood vessels that appear just beneath the surface of your skin, can cause both embarrassment and discomfort. If you haven’t explored how easy and painless the treatment for these can be, it’s a great time to practice your self-love and find out about sclerotherapy.

Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat these spider veins. It takes only about 20 minutes to complete, minimizes their unsightly appearance, and can provide relief from symptoms with no recovery time needed.

So this Valentine’s Day, decide to do something that will make you happy, help you feel special, and is solely for you. Remind yourself of why you love yourself and how important this is. Take the time to find out how spider vein removal can help you to love and appreciate yourself – because you deserve it!

Our expert vascular specialists can effectively treat your spider veins using the latest sclerotherapy techniques. There’s minimal discomfort, and treatment is virtually painless. With this modern therapy, most people resume their daily activities immediately after treatment. Additionally, most major health insurance carriers provide coverage for the treatment of these veins when medically necessary.

Does Vein Sclerotherapy Hurt?

Sclerotherapy is the gold standard for the treatment of spider veins and varicose veins, providing relief for those experiencing aching, pain, heaviness, itching, burning, leg restlessness, leg cramps, throbbing and swelling.

Vein sclerotherapy is an in-office procedure that provides men and women with relief from spider veins on the legs, chest, hands, or face. This vein treatment not only minimizes the unsightly appearance of spider veins and varicose veins, but also can provide relief from their symptoms.

Studies have shown this safe, effective treatment can eliminate as many as 50–80% of treated veins after just a few sessions.  There is minimal discomfort involved, and most treatments are characterized as being virtually painless. The ongoing pain and discomfort of varicose veins can now be replaced by this virtually pain-free vein procedure.

During this procedure, expert vein specialist doctors use FDA approved liquid sclerosants, which are guided visually, or foam, which is guided through ultrasound, to eliminate small spider veins, reticular veins (feeder veins), and larger bulging varicose veins without surgery.

The tiny needle is used to introduce the FDA-approved sclerosant into the vein, drops at a time. This gentle, yet effective medication causes the vein to collapse and close.  Over time, the closed vein gets absorbed by the body and disappears.  The vein specialists initiate the process and the body does the rest, naturally.

Sclerotherapy sessions are typically completed within 20 minutes per leg and most people can resume their daily activities immediately after treatment. There could be minimal side effects, such as mild swelling, or warmth around the area, or light bruising could appear, but these side effects generally go away within a few days. Taking an aspirin can help reduce any inflammation. Of course, like any medical procedure if you experience unusual pain or other problems, you should contact your doctor or seek medical care.

Vein sclerotherapy can help restore circulation and reduce the risks associated with chronic venous insufficiency. With the advancement of modern medical treatments, there’s no reason to suffer from painful, unsightly varicose veins. If early treatment is sought, most vein issues can be resolved before they become a more serious issue.
