Facial Veins Can Be Effectively Treated

It is estimated that at some point, approximately 55% of the population will be affected by the small reddish or purple facial veins that are sometimes referred to as capillary veins or broken veins. These facial veins are often found around the nose and cheeks, and like other types of vein issues, have several common causes including, sun exposure, age, and family history.

Although they may present no health issues, these ruptured veins on the face may appear unsightly. However, a varicose vein specialist can help treat these facial veins through two highly effective treatments, similar to the laser treatment for varicose veins or sclerotherapy for spider veins. With endovenous laser ablation, after a local anesthesia is administered, a varicose vein specialist introduces a small catheter into the vein with ultrasound guidance. This is followed by a small laser fiber, which delivers gentle laser energy, causing the vein to close.   The procedure takes only about 10 minutes to do and requires no hospitalization or surgery center.

During sclerotherapy, a varicose vein specialist uses a tiny needle to introduce an FDA-approved sclerosant into the vein, drops at a time. This gentle, yet effective medication causes the vein to collapse and close. Over time, the closed vein gets absorbed by the body and disappears.

Because no scalpels or sutures are utilized in either treatment, there are no long lasting scars or keloids. There’s minimal discomfort, and most treatments are characterized as being virtually painless. With these modern therapies, most people can resume their daily activities immediately after treatment.

Everything You Need to Know about Deep Vein Thrombosis

Nearly one million people in the United States are affected by deep vein thrombosis (DVT). DVT is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein within the body. This usually occurs in the lower leg or thigh and can be life threatening, as the clot can break off, moving through the bloodstream to eventually block the blood flow in an artery in the lungs. When this occurs, the condition is known as a pulmonary embolism.

Although a person with DVT may have no symptoms at all, others may experience issues such as cramping in the calf, swelling, pain, tenderness in the extremities, or redness of the skin. Therefore, it’s vital to contact a vein specialist doctor immediately if any of these symptoms appear.

A varicose vein specialist can use advanced duplex ultrasound technology to diagnose deep vein thrombosis. This non-invasive diagnostic technique takes less than 15 minutes and can be completed in the physician’s office.

Some of the risk factors for developing DVT include venous insufficiency in the lower extremities, obesity, varicose veins, and family history among others. Therefore, treating varicose veins and spider veins before more serious complications can occur is advisable.

Two highly advanced treatment options are offered today. Sclerotherapy for varicose veins offers safe and effective treatment using VARITHENA™, an FDA-approved sclerosant, to eliminate problem veins with pinpoint accuracy.

Another treatment, known as endovenous laser ablation, is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved procedure which produces immediate results in most patients, and requires little to no recuperation time. These vein treatments require no anesthesia, can be done in the doctor’s office, and are minimally invasive and virtually pain-free, with little to no recovery time.

Vein Disease Treatments Are Also For Men

Approximately 11 million men are affected by varicose veins that, with the help of vein disease treatments, can make life much easier. In fact, about 40% of all men will develop varicose veins by the age of 65. Varicose veins are unsightly, enlarged, swollen, or twisting veins, which typically appear blue or dark purple.

Men who experience them report a range of symptoms such as swollen, heavy, tired, painful or aching legs, nocturnal leg cramps and restless legs, and itching or burning feelings. Additionally, they may suffer from recurrent phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, DVT, leg ulcers, skin pigmentation or changes, loss of hair and skin indentation, or varicose veins bleeding.

How Endovenous Laser Ablation can help treat varicose veins

Treating varicose veins for men has become leading edge with the latest technology. Laser surgery for varicose veins, known as Endovenous Laser Ablation, is a preferred method of treatment with vein specialist doctors for men due to numerous reasons including that it:

  • requires little to no recovery time
  • is FDA approved
  • is minimally invasive
  • takes as little as 10 minutes to do
  • is done in the convenience of the office
  • has a 98% success rate based on research
  • is covered by most insurances

Although men with varicose veins may tend to wait until their veins are very painful or when they experience damage to their skin, waiting can increase the risk of developing serious complications. Thankfully, there’s no need to wait any longer to discover the latest vein disease treatments for men.
