Treating Chest Veins with Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is an in-office procedure used to treat unsightly vein issues like spider veins on the chest, legs, hands, and face. This therapy can assist patients who are experiencing aching, pain, itching, burning, throbbing, and swelling. Although a relatively new procedure, the experienced doctors at the Goldman Vein Institute are industry leaders for the procedure and have pioneered its use in South Florida.

There are two major types of sclerotherapy: ultrasound guided sclerotherapy and guided sclerotherapy. Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy uses ultrasound and an FDA-approved drug VARITHENA, which is specially formulated to treat varicose and spider veins. The sclerosant is foamed and begins to close the vein. Guided sclerotherapy is used to treat non bulging varicose veins and spider veins. Visually guided sclerotherapy uses a liquid based sclerosant to collapse the vein and allow it to be absorbed naturally back into the body. Our minimally invasive procedure has patients in and out the same day, with minor bruising that clears up in weeks.

What Causes Chest Veins

Chest veins can be caused by many factors, including:

  • Occupation
  • Obesity
  • Hormonal influences (such as pregnancy)
  • The use of birth control
  • Postmenopausal hormone replacement
  • Patients with a history of blood clots
  • Trauma to the skin

Our caring team of doctors and nurses are here to ensure that regardless of your condition, you leave our office feeling your best.

The Sclerotherapy Procedure

Sclerotherapy is a quick procedure that usually takes about an hour and does not require much down time. Our office uses FDA approved liquid sclerosants in all of our procedures. Our liquid sclerosants are safer and more effective than saline solutions used in other procedures.

Our doctors start by injecting a small needle into the affected vein. Once in the vein, our team gradually drips a sclerosant into the vein, causing it to contract. Over time, the closed vein gets absorbed back into the body. Our visual sclerotherapy treatments can usually be finished in about 20 minutes and patients can return to normal activities afterward.

Recovery After Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that requires little to no downtime. Our doctors ensure that your safety and happiness is our number one priority. Severe cases may require multiple treatments with our doctors. These procedures eliminate the appearance of chest veins and their symptoms, and patients will be able to return to their accustomed lifestyles.

All of our procedures can be completed at each of our convenient South Florida locations at your leisure. Let Goldman Vein Institute be your guide to a healthy, beautiful lifestyle.
