Endovenous Laser Ablation

Endovenous Laser Thermal Ablation (EVLT), also referred to as Endovenous Laser Treatment (ELT), is an ultrasound-guided laser treatment used to treat refluxing saphenous veins of the legs. Since being FDA approved in 2003, it has revolutionized vein care, and made vein stripping surgery, an invasive and largely unsuccessful option, a thing of the past.

EVLT takes 10 minutes to do, and is done in the comfort of our state-of-the-art facilities.  ELT requires no hospitalization or surgery center, is very well tolerated, and most patients can go right back to their usual daily routine right away.

The physicians at the Goldman Vein Institute are certified in EVLT and were amongst the first physicians in the country to implement this excellent treatment option for patient suffering from saphenous vein disease. The procedure is recommended for patients who are identified as having saphenous vein reflux during their initial consultation.  Most insurances provide coverage for EVLT.

Benefits of Endovenous Laser Ablation

The experienced, certified vein specialists at the Goldman Vein Institute recommend Endovenous Laser Thermal Ablation for the treatment of damaged leg veins because it requires little to no recovery time, is FDA approved, is minimally invasive, takes as little as 10 minutes to do , is done in the convenience of the office, has a 98% success rate based on research, and is covered by most insurances.

Dr. Goldman was amongst the first physicians in the country to routinely institute this modality and has performed Endovenous Laser Thermal Ablation on thousands of patients, all with excellent results.

How Do Our Vein Specialists Perform Endovenous Laser Ablation?

Varicose VeinsOur certified vein specialists perform this FDA-approved procedure in the office.  It takes 10 minutes.  It is done with local anesthesia only, and patients are wide awake.  With the patient lying comfortably, a small catheter is introduced into the vein with ultrasound guidance.  A small laser fiber is then introduced, which delivers gentle laser energy, in turn irritating the vein, causing it to close.  After the procedure is completed, patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately or within 24 hours.
